NOT in trim section- Help! 700

I'm not real clear on what it is you're after but here goes. Once the ashtray is pulled out, snap out the plastic tray behind the ashtray to access the fuse panel. If you want all the plastic out of the way, there are two screws in the center console that hold in the plastic forward section that surrounds the stick. They're visible in the handbrake recess. You don't have to flip up the console storage armrest cover to see them. They're in plain view where the handbrake rests when it's down.

If you have heated seats the switches will come out with this panel so you'll need to disconnect them. It's a good idea to disconnect the negative terminal on battery before you start pulling the console/fuse panel apart, btw.

If you don't have the graphic equalizer option, you'll have a pocket to the right of the ciggy lighter. Around the lighter is a plastic trim piece that snaps out. You'll see two mounting screws for the lighter/tray. Remove them. Disconnect the lighter, light bar (under the tray) and set it aside.

All you should have left is your stereo, the console sidepanels the fuse panel and the main portion of the center console between the seats.

If you want (need?) to remove the sides of the main center console, you'll have to remove the stereo. Pull off the knobs and using a bent piece of wire clothes hanger (bend a small hook in the end) fish it through the holes in the stereo's faceplate around the knob shafts and hook the retainers on each side that lock the stereo in place. Pull it out and disconnect everything. Looking into the stereo's mounting tray, you'll see one screw at the very back. Remove it and pull the tray out while fishing all the wires out through the two holes at the rear.

Now you have access to the two screws on the inner side of each main console side panel. Remove them. Just ahead of the stick is a metal cross brace tying the two sidepanels together. It has a hook on the right. Pray its screws aren't tightened too much and using some force, you can pop the right side loose and pivot it over.

Here's where it gets ugly. The main console side panels are secured at the bottom by a bolt under the carpet. 13mm if I remember correctly. On each front doorsill plastic rocker panel there's a few plastic covers about 1"X1/2". Pop them all out. Under them you'll see philips head screws. Remove them all and remove the rocker panel trim. Reaching your arm under the carpet feel for the bolt at the base of the console panel. Once you know where it is, use a ratchet and socket to remove the bolt and the console panel MIGHT come out. When I did all this I had removed the knee bolsters under both sides of the dash so I can't say if the panel will come out with them in place.

At this point you'll have full access to just about anything you could want in the center console area.

In the immortal words of the Haynes manual (which you should have, it's how I learned to do this) "Installation is the reverse of disassembly."

Have fun!

Oops. Guess I missed the part of your post about you having just done the interior white and just wanting to replace this piece! The coffee must have kicked in and I couldn't stop.

Regards,
