You didn't say anything about adding freon. The low pressure switch on the accumulator will keep the compressor clutch from engaging. You may need to jumper the terminals of this connector at the beginning of the charge to get the compressr to come on. There should soon be enough pressure in the system to keep the compressor on while charging.
Not sure of the fan circuit on the 1990 model. You may have to jumper the temp sensor connector to get the fan to come on. By the way, running the fan while charging will lower the condenser temp and therefore pressure. This will help wih charging also.
