Man... maybe your wife's car just has a leak somewhere. There are known weaknesses of that particular coolant, but it can leak out just like anything else.
Who is using Dexcool, or Dexcool-type coolant in any Volvo? Let's hear it. I'm sick of hearing from people who have just fixed 10 GM cars that dexcool screwed up, because they are NOT the same car, and they are actually the cars that Dexcool was designed for. GM stuck themselves in the backside with Dexcool, because they couldn't build cars that their own coolant, worked in.
But the REST of the free world, outside of the brass radiator crowd... there hasn't been much discussion over that.
All the aftermarket parts wholesalers I talk to say "dexcool sucks". I say, "why"?
"It sucks. Just don't use it." That is their answer.
When I ask "why" on this board, I get links to a bunch of sites that reference only GM vehicles, and those vehicles are ones SPECIFICALLY known to be at risk of having cooling system problems.
So... I'm not sold on the whole Dexcool Sucks thing. Not totally. Besides, I've got several cars that have been running on the stuff for a long time. And honestly, aside from the fact that Dexcool seems to like to weep in tiny amounts from areas like hose ends, it seems OK. It seems to do a good job of cooling the car.
