Sounds like exactly what happened to me several years ago - returning from Christmas...
It was a broken timing belt.
To verify, remove the oil filler cap, have someone else turn over the engine ( using the ignition), while you look through the oil filler opening and see if the cam shaft is turning over. If there is nothing rotating while the engine is turning over, the timing belt is kaput.
Since this is a non-interupting engine, no valve stems or pistons are damaged..
Easy repair and away you go.
