Stumped with problem! 200 1983

Bad road trips are a bummer for relationships.

I take it you checked to see if you have fuel to the injectors. Since you have spark, timing belt is ok and all else seems to work (fuel pump and related relays, etc.
I'd check the following:
Fuel flow ... I usually disconect at the fuel filter...first on the input (quick pump check) and then on the output...to see if filter is clogged...if so replace filter.

Spark plug gap is correct, and clean ?

Air Mass Meter as mentioned in other response...be sure ignition is OFF.

Timing is correct ? Belts have been known to advance or retard themselves if the tension is not correct.

Other thought. What year and how many miles ? My 84, 242 and I had a battle on the same issue. The first culprit was a rotted rubber fuel line connection in the fuel tank ( about two inches long...connects the in tank fuel pump to the fuel line). The 84 would just die...as if someone turned the ignition off, even though I had a 1/4 tank of fuel.
The second culprit was a dying fuel pump relay ( located on the left of the drivers foot well...behind the panel by the fuses). Again, it would just die...and dash light up like a Xmas tree, or refused to start, but eventually would start.

As usual.....hunting and finding is always an adventure.

Let us know what/ who the culprit was.
