OD slipping 700

Read the 700 FAQ's at the top of the Brickboard about replaceing the actuating piston O-rings. Your symptoms are classic for that many miles.

You would need new pistons ONLY if the Old O-rings are Teflon.(Blue) which you will not know until you remove the OD and look.

An 87 probably does not have the Teflon sytle O-rings. Check with the dealer as to original parts and replaced with numbers to be sure.
