Thanks for all the input! The distributor cap appears to be fine - no cracks that I can see. I rechecked belt tightness on the alternator by loosening adjusting bolts and using prybar to tighten them as much as I could. Took the brick by a local parts store and had them test battery and alternator. Alternator checked out fine, battery only tested at 300CCA (rated at 460CCA). Probable answer - new battery! Now anyone have recommendations on brands, or just any old battery that fits?
