Lambda sond..I know what it is, but how'd it get it's name? 200

Lambda is the Bosch name for "excess air factor". When fuel:air mixture reaches the stoichiometric ratio of 14.7:1 (perfect combustion), lamba is defined to be 1. When mixture increases beyond 14.7:1 with excess air ("lean"), then lamba is greater than 1, and vice versa. The oxygen sensor measures the residual excess air after combustion and supplies the signal to the ECU, which in turn alters fuel delivery to bring mixture back clower to 14.7:1.

Hence "Lambda Sond" means "lambda sensor".
