Steve,
He said the tach was jumping, so I discounted the power stage because it feeds the tach pulse. It would logically seem, therefore, that the fault is between the power stage and plugs i.e. HT wires or coil or dist. cap / rotor (Of course, this assumes the tach is continuously jumping..)
