No Start Problem 200 1983

I changed the subject line, and you might want to make a new posting, since the resistor isn't the real issue (I think).

"Now, I realize that I do not hear the fuel pump when I turn the key on."

Some may argue, but I believe the "Key on=fuel pump" thing is a myth. Some do, some don't. I've heard that when it does happen, it's because of where the distributor stops — it may produce one pulse with key on. This would result in a short "pick" to the fuel relay.

The normal ("documented") way to energize the FR is +12 v (key on) to Fuse #12, to FR terminal 86 (BL/R wire). BUT, a ground is required at terminal 85 (BL/GN wire), which goes to ECU terminal 17 to be grounded internally.

This is critical, because the ECU must "see" ignition pulses (or that "odd" one) before it will ground the FR relay. It gets these pulses from Coil terminal #1 (Gray wire, maybe shielded?). So that would be a good place to check. Fuse 12 and its contacts too.

Clean both coil coil terminals by taking them on & off a few times. For a quick test, make a "jumper" wire and connect FR relay 85 to a good ground (by-passing the ECU), then see if it starts. If it does, we go to ignition. Got to run now, but will be back.
