Good info but where are the pics??
Unless your pics depict this I think you left out the most important part of the installation. It is essential to lift the pump thereby compressing the mushroom seal during tightening. The slotted bolt holes on the pump allow for this lifting and compression. I think failure to pay attention here is the most frequent cause of the leakage after installation.
