E-Z water pump installation.

I screwed up the pics in the code. I got distracted during the whole thing and forgot a bunch of things, including checking the post after I sent it.

With respect to "the most important" part of the installation, the most important part of the installation is to clean the entire block and head mating surfaces. When you pull up on the pump to put in the last bolts, the clean mating surfaces should prevent the mushroom seal from leaking when the weather cools significantly. The pump should make you pull up on it just to get the last bolts in. In my experience it is most important, to have a virtually perfect sealing surface. If there are old coolant, gasket, or RTV deposits on the head surface, it will make the likelihood of leaks much greater.

Also I should've noted, by greasing the gasket, you allow for an adjustment easily, later on. If you use RTV sealant, while you will have a great seal between block and pump, it can cause problems if you decide to move the pump later. Although moving the pump shouldn't be necessary.

One thing to remember, is that this is tried-and-true advice. Maybe I haven't installed as many pumps as a few other people here, but they definitely are or were service technicians (as was I). The choice of RTV, dry, or grease, is more of an individual thing. I find that grease works out for me the best.
