I removed both of my hinge ground wires to make more room for
the harnesses to move around, making them less likely to break.
To replace them, I got a length of 12AWG stranded wire (4' or 5',
not sure) and put loop connectors of both ends. I then connected
it to one of the mounting bolts of the right tailgate strut and
wrapped it around the strut to form a "spring." The other end
got connected to the other mounting bolt. So far, it's worked
for 6 mo., and it's a easy to replace if it does break.
