After about a mile of driving, sometimes even less, the car will drive completely normal.
I'll pass along a possible cause for this, as told to me by a long-time Volvo specialist. The theory blames porous deposits in the intake manifold and on the back of the intake valves. These deposits soak up part of the fuel, starving the cylinders. In a mile or so, they become saturated and stop stealing fuel. And the engine has warmed up a bit by then too, so there is less need for the extra cold-running mixture.
The recommendation is to use a "good" Fuel System cleaner in the gas. I think there are some in the FAQ. Volvo once recommended Chevron Techron, but I don't think they recommend anything now.
