You can buy a new mirror insert from Volvo. As I recall, it installs by sticking a skinny screwdriver behind the mirror and turning or flipping a circular gizmo that "latches" or locks the mirror to the mechanism...

Likewise, if you can find a good mirror at the boneyard, you should be able to detach it from the mechanism by flipping the same gizmo.
