Depends what level of reliability you're after. Replacing suspect looking hoses is always a good idea.

Apart from that, there's a lot of stuff that'll still allow you to limp home. The heater thermostat is a favorite (cheap plastic...) part to burst and leave you without coolant. If the fuel pump(s) start getting noisy, you might want to consider replacing those.

It also depends on the area you're operating in. In the hot areas (southern US) wholesale replacement of all hoses seems to be somewhat popular. In areas with poor roads there's a lot of bushing replacement - those can get pretty hammered. There's even people doing preventative replacement of stuff like water pumps and radiators. In a moderate area with good roads such as where I live (the Netherlands) we tend to take the "if it ain't broken don't fix it" point of view -- why replace a water pump that isn't leaking?
