I've got an 88 240 GL and I'm currently cornering a non-start problem myself. I'd do a check to find out if there is spark coming from the ignition coil to the distributor. To do this, the Haynes manual has you simply disconnect this wire from the distributor and have somebody attempt to start the car while you hold the end of the wire up to the engine block. If there is no spark, something is likely wrong with your ignition system.
Others may have better advice (check battery, starter, fuel sys); this is simply what I'm currently experiencing. Good Luck.
