I've got a friend coming over Monday for a new headpipe in her '89. It's an original pipe with 220K or so on it, so not too bad a run. It split in the "y" joint... the front two pipes pulled out of the collector. The thing's presently wired together to shut it up.
For these, I always recommend just putting in a new one, once it gets ugly. Welding old, rusty, heat-fatigued steel is always a bit sketchy.
