Can't separate transmission from engine 700 1989

Thanks for the info. It's a automatic transmission. Is the flexplate the piece that connects to the bottom of the engine with the 4 bolts and meshes at the bottom of the transmission? If so yes, I have removed it. I'll support the engine at the pan but wonder what you are using to pry it appart? I've used a bottle jack to try and push it back but again, I don't want to do something stupid.
