I may sound naive, but how do you do that?

I replaced it with a new Bosch Volvo OEM one.

"Did you run a compression check?"
No, I don't know how, but would be willing to figure it out.

Thanks for your help. I hope you will write back with suggestions about compression and ECT checking.
