DL vs. 240DL

Well, I guess they dropped the numbers in 1980. I owned one but it's been gone so long the I forgot. My 1979 says 245DL on the right side rear. My 1986 says 240GL on that place. My 1984 says DL or GL, no numbers. Goofy, right?
