I've got an 85 my self, Just purchased in September, mechanic had told the seller that the wire harness was bad, what I discovered was a bad connection to the temp sensor, and the amm was on its way out, corrected both and car runs great, I'd lean in that direction first before possibly compounding a problem and suspecting fuel issues and randomly changing out parts
