The service kit has nothing to do with the eprom chip inside the ECU. The kit adds an external device that increases the voltage level to the CTS only when it is cold out, the engine is cold, and only for a set amount of time. This fools the ECU into thinking that its 20 degrees colder than it really is, and causes it to increase injector pulse width accordingly.
