Fourth gear shift problem 700 1990

Is the light on the dash (arrow) working normally when you press the button on the shifter? Can you hear the relay click when you press the button on the shifter? The relay may be easier to hear if your remove the ashtray and its backing to expose the relay tray. The solenoid is on the left top driver's side of the transmission. If the light and relay are functioning normally perhaps the wiring to the solenoid is degraded and needs replaced. More information from you would be helpful.
