First make sure 200 1988

I agree with chuck...check out your thermostat first. Its cheap and easy, and with your gauge reading WAY too low to begin with, your engine was running cool. The symtoms described are text book comp. board, but your temperature wasn't right which makes me think that your thermostat might have been broken or stuck open. in either event, the problem is cheap and easy to fix...15 bucks for a thermostat or 2 bucks for a little comp. board jumper.
