No tailgate wash 700 1986

Hello my tailgate washer has stopped working so I have checked the fuse and they were fine so I fitted a used washer pump and it still didnt work. So I tested it on the front windscreen and the used pump works great. Could the push button on the end of the washer stalk have died and that is my problem? Is there any way to repair the button or is a new or used stalk in order. The wiring for the pump washers looks good. Many thanks James.
