flame trap replacement 200

HI - what a bummer of a situation.

The 1986 B230F engine has the flame trap and affiliated things located same as the 1983,4,5, and 1987. Then, in 1988, Volvo in its infinite wisdom, heard the howls of many mechanics with skinned knuckles and made a nice change.

New oil separator box, new flame trap holder, new hoses, and voila! the flame trap is a 15 minute service.

The new system can be retrofitted to the older engines, such as yours. Takes the bucks for the different parts, and a little finagling to get the oil breather box exchanged, but it's a decent investment for a DIY type.

Oh, and if the seals, rear main and all 3 engine front seals, were the blown ones, likely the flame trap and the rest of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system is clogged up. If your mechanic/shop knows nothing of this possiblity, find another place.

The Brickboard FAQs says 700/900, but the flame trap & PCV stuff is good for 240s (as are many other things).

Good Luck,

Bob
