A check engine light can be caused by several different problems. You should read out the codes and let us know what they are. The mechanic probably just reset the engine diagnostic computer as there is no oxygen specific reset on your Volvo. Is the car running rich? A bad O2 sensor can cause a rich condition which can quickly ruin your car.
