I recently installed a tach in my 86 wagon and everything worked great. I subsequently went back into the instrument cluster a few days later to repair the odometer and since putting it all back in place I have had a few problems. The tach will not work at all and the small clock that connects to it will not keep time while the car is running. It will, however, keep great time when not the ignition is off and when cranking the car the tach needle surges and once the engine is running it falls and remains dormant. The clock is not illuminated by the bulb and on further inspection the bulb is only weakly lit. I took out the tach and the clock and installed them in a 1984 sedan and they worked great with the tach fine and the clock keeping time, and well illuminated. Further trying to localize the problem I put the original clock back into the Wagon's cluster to see if it would run. It did not; neither with the car off nor running. I was hoping it was just a fuse, but the fuse to the clock is intact. Any ideas? Thanks for any input.
