Look for damage to something else in the vicinity.
Particularly, on a 1985-88 240, look at the ignition wiring harness going to the control unit in the RF fender- that wiring could get damaged by this work, or have crumbling insulation in it. In that case, you might need a new wiring harness to get it working right again.
Also inspect the wiring plug to the distributor, the throttle body, and especially the air mass meter (AMM) in the LF fender- perhaps something was unplugged or dislodged. DO NOT unplug any of these things with the key on.
