What next?......... 200

OK, thermostat is present. The thermostat is supposed to keep the coolant temp above some specified minimum. If the coolant gets cooler, thermostat closes down and keep coolant from flowing through radiator until the temp rises to spec.

So if the gauge wiring is OK, then the readings you get are an accurate reading of what's going on in the engine. Why? I think the radiator remove-and-flush recommendation is a good one. Also, check the fan clutch - intermittent action there could have an effect, too.
