smells 120-130

I have had a few comments lately that my car smells when I arrive somewhere

a couple people said that i am burning oil but I have not seen any smoke unless I hammer the gas when I need to get up an go fast

there is no oil leak in the radiator (which brings me to another question: should I be able to actually see the rad fluid moving when looking in the from the top?)

when I had the rad to thermostat tube off and started the car fluid sprayed out forcefully so that should indicate the water pump is working correct?

now back to my smelly situation, I cannot really tell the difference from an oily smell to a burning oil smell and i find it difficult to distinguish between oil and gas smells, guess I will never make it as a sommelier

not getting great gas mileage but I have not really followed it that closely in city conditions

dual SU carbs installed

one last thing, the Haynes Manual talks about valve adjustments and gives an order of valves but does not state if that is working form the front ofr the back of the engine first, any ideas? and how do you know when the car is idling at 800 RPM if their is no tach?

thanks
Robert
