See FAQ, but I believe the crank mark was a tad to the left of 12 o'clock.
You can verify: Piston #1 closest to you, should be at the upmost position, see through spark plug hole.

Intermediate sproket only drives oil pump so it should not matter, assuming your engine has the distributor at the rear of the camshaft.
