Your car was built 6 years before Volvo used remote central locking systems. The other problem is probably a failing ignition switch. The radio is on a separate terminal (marked "X" circuit) from engine and many other accessories. It's not uncommon to go bad; IPD, RPR and others stock the electrical section that fails.
