That much is good Joe - you have enough oil flow to the head. But to be able to "feel" the valve lash - that's quite a lot. Measure the valve clearance before removing the cam. If it is anything tighter than .020 or so, then the noise is elsewhere.
At this point the most important thing is to diagnose the problem before taking the engine apart so far it can't be run.
Did the noise suddenly appear, or was it a gradual thing?
