I know this has been beaten to death. I've read dozens if not hundreds of old posts already on this so I'll keep it brief.
I'm replacing the struts on my wife's car soon and I need to know:
1. Should I replace the strut mounts as a wear item "while I'm in there?"
2. How can I tell if they're worn before I disassemble stuff?
3. Can I relace/repack just the bearing without replacing the mount?
I've never done this before but they're getting pretty bad. There is a clunking or clicking noise from the front end now while turning sharply at slow speed and I can hear the struts clunking around inside the strut assembly. Also, they do very little damping. Very small bumps and road imperfections are transmitted to the cabin by feel and sound.
Thanks so much.
BTW, if there's anything you people want pictures of while I've got stuff apart, I'll be glad to take them. I think I can post them here easily now and I can of course email them.
