heater stuff 200 1980

Oops, think my prior message got sent before I was done. Anyway, I have most of the dirty work done, just need time to hook up the wiring and reassemble the car. Now that I've done the traditional method, I wonder about a couple of things I haven't seen in the archives.

One: Why is there instruction about drilling/cutting a hole in the bottom of the housing and threading wires out that way? my motor had a bullet connector that plugs into the harness from the resistor near the switch connector and the ground wire seems to reach to the original ground location at the upper right of the front console/dash support. The plug for the resistor required two small semi-circle grinds to fit through the existing hole and the grommet covers it all. (The supplied digram and other info is sort of sketchy about a point here, I'm hoping that I can get the white/black wire and connector out of the original plug and slide it into the new plug after I figure out which open hole it goes into and the diagram doesn't show the white wire that was paired with the original harness's white.)

Two: The directions for the chainsaw method say to cut slots in the venturi. Is that just meaning the routing out so the replacement motor can fit in the space of the narrower original motor or does it mean some additional cutting to get the flange of the new motor into place?

By the way, the new Siemans made-in-Mexico motor had three slots in the flange so forget the part about grinding off the three oblong raised buttons, perfect fit.

Now the good part. I thought the operation of the heater valve was suspect as it was all off or full heat, no medium output. Well, it started dripping after getting moved around so it's corroded out and time to replace. I called ipd and although the catalog says they are looking for a new source, call, the guy who answered seemed to not know or care much, just they didn't have anything. Being on the west coast, it was too late to talk to a human at FCPGroton so I called my favorite local parts store. It took a while, the guy finally came back with the answer that they didn't have one but he had found two listings, one for $119 and one for $79. I figured $79 was more then FCPGroton but probably about the same with shipping and all. When I picked it up the nex day it was $70 and tax. It is the original style. The box says made in the USA, the assembly has a sticker that says made in Spain, and stamped in the metal it says made in Britain.
