Before you get too enamored of UPS, you should check into their policies. If an object being shipped is damaged, even if the damage done while they have possession, they can dispose of (destroy)the shipment without reimbursing the shipper. That can be done if, in their opinion, the shipment is a threat to the safety of their employees. It happened here recently and the only comment was, basically, "oops".

Why do they do it? -- Because they can

If you ship it or send it, you take your chances.
