cigarette smell

I am in the same boat with the '89 760 That I purchased recently. Tell her to keep at it. I have had some luck with Tuff Stuff carpet and upholstery cleaner. I used it on every surface I could find. I don't know about the odor reducers. I used the Clorox brand, because it is touted as stronger than Fabreze. It leaves behind a kind of flowery soapy smell that I don't like much better than the cigarette smell.

The thing that I believe has helped the most is good old fashioned fresh air, like grandma used to make her laundry smell so fresh. I leave the windows open at every opportunty - parked and driving. If I have the windows open while the car is parked at work, when I leave at night, I barey notice the smell if at all, however If the windows are up, the smell is more obvious. I do believe it is diminishing. I juist bought some leatherique to condition the seats. I hope this will help and am waiting for a nice hot day to make the application.

I have heard that the ion-generating air freshners will help. Have not tried it, but I have a buddy that uses them in his house and swears by them. I hope to borrow one from him and put it in my car for a couple of days. I am also thinking about dusting the inside of the car with baking soda - it is supposed to absorb odors. At least that will ensure that I vacuum everything well.

Good luck. I hope that this doesn't completely spoil her enjoyment of her new car. Which model did she buy? I refuse to test drive the WRX or miniCooper because I don't want my money jumping out of my wallet. I am sure the odor problem will get better.

Dan
