just to err on the side of caution, my reputable race shop recommended against modifying the stock wheel. Sure, it may save you $500 on the new wheel, but it still costs money. And, if anything, ANYTHING goes wrong, it can literally cut the car in half, including your legs. This is especially true because there are no scatter shields avaliable for our cars. That thing letting go at 6000 RPM would be disastrous, and I do not think that 4lbs is really worth the very real risk of death. The stock flywheel was engineered, we are not engineers, dont take chances.
