I agree. It's been done and done safely, but the reason VPD and other suppliers don't offer modified stock flywheels is liability. I couldn't even get my Swedish expert to tell me how to go about it.

I've got the VPD aluminum street flywheel (12-13 lbs. or so, I think it is) and there's nothing scary about it. That's about the going price for those. You certainly can't get a stock one down to that weight without severely compromising it's ability to dissipate heat, no matter how you shave it.

My opinion, FWIW...
