Buzzing fuel pump? 140-160

I think my new '72 164 is having fuel pump issues -- though I'm far from sure. There's a low, fluctuating buzz coming from the rear of the car, which my more car-savvy friends think is the fuel pump. My brother, who knows 1800s, says he thinks it is normal for the pump to make some noise like this while priming, but in my case the buzz is constant. Any ideas?
