I would expect a fuel pump to make a constant, or somewhat varying, whining noise. A buzzing noise could be due to something vibrating. You could use a wooden stick to press against the pump and various parts around it. It could be that part of the exhaust, for example, is what is buzzing. If it is the pump that is vibrating, and the pump mounting bolts are tight, I would think there is something wrong with the pump.
