FYI, the 240s did not have intercoolers fitted at the factory except for the 1985 model year (final year of the 240 Turbo), and the 500 Flathood homologated (Group A) vehicles that were sent to the USA in 1983 (to meet the requirements for ETCC racing). However, many of the non-intercooled 240s (81-84) were upgraded later at the Volvo dealerships with an intercooler kit that could be purchased for about $800 if I remember correctly. This was more than just the intercooler, as it also included a new pressure cutoff switch and some additional hardware.
Volvo intercoolers (200 & 700 series) are unusually large in size and are a popular "mod" for street racers, etc. It's getting hard to find them in my local salvage yards because every high-schooler out there is trying to get their hands on them and cram them into their Mitsubishi, Honda, etc. (Many of them are finding that this is not possible without serious fabrication work since you're trying to cram a device the size of a truck radiator into the front end of a rice rocket.)
God bless and drive safe,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
