1990 740 GLE Start Problems 700 1990

Assuming you have the Bosch (2 pump) system. I don't believe a failing Tank pump will cause a no-start. Especially an intermittent.

I don't like to throw parts at a problem, but given the car's age, a $35 Crank Position Sensor would be a good idea any how. You can get more info in the 700/900 FAQ.

When it fails, there is no ignition, which in turn prevents the FI system from running the pumps.
