A/C acting up 140-160 1972

My 164 has factory a/c -- I had the R12 charged a few weeks ago and it was blowing cold, but a few odd things have come to light. On a long (300 mile) drive this weekend in hot weather, it ran cold for most of the trip, but after about 2 hrs. the blower speed (*not* the temperature) seemed to die off.

Part 1: After arriving home I tried to poke around a bit under the dash on the passenger side, and just loosening the main upper kickpanel led to a gush of water. Not a ton, but enough to be alarming. I could not tell where it was coming from. Is this a telltale sign?

Part 2: A few hours later, I came back from an errand and cranked it up. This time it's back to blowing full-blast, and cold. I popped off the silver vent housing, and it appears the foam lining has somehow gotten out of place, and may have been jamming the air path. I will try to attach a picture of this. Is there an adjustment I need to make? I have a service manual, but, naturally, A/C is not included.

Any ideas as to what's going on?
