Well, the screwdriver tip didn't work for me, so I unbolted the entire carrier with the seal still firmly in place. (I had a gasket hand for this eventuality, and, so I could set the seal a wee bit deeper without going too far to the backside).

Now, I am trying to pry it out/pres it in with the assembly off the engine.

Thanks anyhow.
