There wire should be there unless someone has tampered or removed it. On my 79's the wire is black. I have also seen a grey wire on pre-81 cars at the boneyards. On my 84 (81+ Cars) the wire should be the red/white one everyone talks about. These 200 series were pre-wired for the tach option. Sometimes the wire is just tucked in the wiring harness and is hard to located but it is there. I can not think of any 200 series I have come across at the boneyard that did not have the wire behind the cluster. Look harder and you will find it. Good Luck!
