The three connections on the tach are for a molded plug and wiring harness to fit onto. This powers the small clock that usually goes along with the tach. You've got +12 battery power to the clock, a black ground wire, and a wire for the instrument light in the clock. The clock is intended to be a remote unit fed by the tach. The plug for it's harness looks a lot like a headlight connector for a car with sealed-beam headlights.
THe white/red wire goes to a double male spade lug soldered to the back of the instrument cluster circuit board. The other terminal is left exposed.
Good luck, hopefully this didn't hurt anything.
