I would also opine that you should interview several shops if at all possible. Hang around and see how they interact with their clients. See if their method of doing business suits you! Some shops like to have the car and your money and will call you in a few months to pick it up. Others like (need) accasional owner involvement to ensure they are on track instead of sucking up their time in "emergencies."
Not that either is BAD, just different.
Additionally, some shops will allow you to do much of the dirty work of sanding right there in the shop OR allow you to take the car home to do sanding. Another way to greatly diminish the cost.
